Fall Fashion Approaches #BiancaFeelingFall

It’s hard for me to think about fall when it’s still a million degrees in Los Angeles and hardly five days into September. I just love summer so much! But… the idea of getting into a cozy new sweater dress or suede boots isn’t terrible to look forward to either. I popped by one of my favorites stores in LA, Elyse Walker, to get some thoughts on what to invest in this fall for a fashionable updated look. While I tried on some of the new styles myself, I chatted with Philip Manghisi, Elyse Walker’s buyer for Designer, Shoes and Handbags. Here’s what I found out!

P.S. If you’d like to see some of these trends in person, contact Erin Richards at erin@elysewalker.com. She can set up a styling session for you at the shop or at home.

Bianca- You are just back from Paris and sharing the latest runway trends. You said Red was everywhere- can anyone pull off this Tomato color? Does hair color matter? What about women who don’t love bold colors?

Philip- Tomato red is a great color for blondes and brunettes, though may be difficult for someone with more auburn hair. If a woman doesn’t want to wear red from head-to-toe (and understandably so), I would recommend buying an accessory in this color like a handbag or shoe. It will instantly update their look.

B- I love the white shoe! Where will we see that and what shape is most modern?

P- You will see white shoes in most footwear collections. Gianvito Rossi, Francesco Russo, and Manolo Blahnik are a few to mention. White will seem most modern (and decadent) in bootie form—the more utilitarian the shoe, the chicer it is in white.

B- Tell me about the sparkle trend – how can we use this in our everyday lives seeing most of us aren’t Beyoncé ;)?
P- Sparkles aren’t for everyone, but it’s nice to get this trend in bits and pieces. A Gucci sweater with embellishment, or a Saint Laurent sequined backpack, or Isabel Marant glitter booties. Wearing too much sparkle is a no-no, so pick your favorite piece and mix it with something more toned down.

B- What are 3 pieces to invest in this fall?
P- You should definitely invest in a statement coat, a novelty blouse (i.e. something metallic or sparkly), and a velvet dress or trousers.

B- What are 3 must have fall accessories to buy for fall?
P- Your three must have fall accessories are a velvet handbag, white boots or booties, and a metallic clutch or cross-body bag.

RED- Red alert! Red is everywhere. To be clear it’s this gorgeous tomato color. The red purse or coat (ok ok and. I need both!) may be coming to a closet near me soon. I have stayed away from red for a while so oddly this feels new and fresh to me.

SUITS- Power dressing is always fun for me as a CEO of my own company. The latest cuts seem to really hug your shape better. This Stella McCartney suit was so easy to move in. I think it’s a great investment piece that can be worn as a full ensemble, or separately. Personally, I would buy one that I can keep for a while as this is a classic piece that you can really do many things with. Clean cut classics are my favorite. They are timeless go-to’s that always look great.

SPARKLE- This YSL top illustrates the trend. If you are OK with glitter on your body and like to stand out, this fall trend you all yours.

VELVET- From Blazers to dresses to shoes its everywhere. Simple and rich looking- it’s an easy wearable trend.

WHITE SHOES- I’m a huge fan as I love how modern they look and pop with what can be a season full of dark tones. I found these mules to be super comfortable and stayed on my feet easily.
